Day 24: All Time Fav Lyrics

(I skipped day 23 b/c I've never drawn a picture of any of them and even if I did I wouldn't post it because it probably wouldn't be good. And it's creepy either way.)

Sea Within a Sea

Some say we walk alone
Barefoot on wicked stone no light
and sanctuary found never waits around awhile

Marching to the sea
their dreams stay in the shadows
their dreams stay firmly rooted in the shallows
See the scraping sky
See my destination there tonight

So say I walk alone barefoot
on wicked stone tonight
Will you leap to follow
Will you turn and go
Will your dreams stay rooted in the shallows

See the scraping sky
Far beyond the shallows
Far beyond the reaches of the shadows

Though youth may fade with boyhood´s cares
New fear will catch us unawares
I know it will

So you might say
the path we share is one of danger
and of fear
until the end

Day 22: A Cartoon or Drawing

Here are two I find especially hysterical:

Days 19, 20, and 21: When/How You Got Into Them

Well (takes deep breath),

Back either late 2006 or really early in 2007, when we were all still on myspace, I got a friend request from this band (not unusual, and I was in the habit of giving one song a listen and then accepting whoever requested, a habit I have since gotten rid of). I listened to a song entitled "Little Victories", thought 'These guys are good, I'll go ahead and add them'. Well a couple months later I got the "100 Bands You Need to Know" edition of Alternative Press (once again, back when I used to read AP) for 2007. Guess who was featured? A little band from Southend-On-Sea called The Horrors. Along with a great picture of them in a circle looking up at the camera on a black and purple background, looking cool as fuck (I have this picture on my wall now). Now at the time I was heavily listening to the Rhino comp., Left of the Dial: Dispatches from the 80's Underground, which introduced me to a load of new bands, including The Cramps. Well, when listing who the Horrors sounded like, they listed The Cramps. Then I vaguely remembered a band that had requested me a couple months ago of the same name, and I though, woah, is that them?

I went downstairs to the computer (laptops, psssh) and logged myself into my then main communication website, and scanned my friends list. Sure enough, there they were, The Horrors, with the black and white picture of Joe and Joshua on top of that hill (Hors, you know exactly which one I mean). I listened again, and decided they were good. Granted, I still didn't listen that closely, but it counted for a little something. In that same issue of AP, there was an ad for their forthcoming album, Strange House, saying the release date was on May 15th and that it was available at Best Buy (hey, don't judge, Best Buy are fucking cheap) and that they would be on tour with Black Rebel Motorcycle club a couple months later. I saved some cash, and made my dad take me to Best Buy on May 15th to get their album. We listened to it on the way back and to be honest, it was okay. At the time I wasn't completely sold. My dad just kept saying that they "definitely have a strong 60s influence, I mean, that organ is really 60s". Oh dad. After we got home I listened to it again, and fell madly in love with the following tracks: "Count if Fives" "Draw Japan" "Little Victories" and "Sheena is a Parasite". And I couldn't really get into the rest of the album. In fact, it took me a couple of months to get into the rest of the album.

Why did it take a couple months? Well, I didn't get into the whole thing until after I had seen them live at the Grog Shop. I was expecting BRMC, but I got Schoolyard Heroes, who do have a couple of good songs. And I made awkward contact with Ultragrrl. The concert was fucking amazing. It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Just wild and manic and fun. I got pushed really close to the front (as I always do, for some reason or another) and I'm pretty sure I got sweated on by Faris. A lot. Eh. I'm not a creepy Faris fangirl so it was mostly just a 'comes with the concert territory' thing for me. I did get to sing along to "Count in Fives" into the mic, though. That was fun. And he climbed on of the beams for a while. And I'm pretty sure someone gave him a wedgie (contributing factor in them not playing Cleveland after Primary Colours? You never know). At the end of the show, Joe threw his drumsticks and the bitchass in front of me took both of them. I'm still salty about that. I mean, that's just bad concert etiquette. Like, you don't let anyone fall in the pit, and you don't take more than one thing that's been thrown because there are other people there too you buttmunch! I wanted a Horrors t-shirt, but could only afford a Schoolyard Heroes T-shirt. So all I left with as a souvenir was a sticker. Which I don't think I have anymore. I wanted to stay afterwards and see if I could meet them. But I was 15 and wasn't exactly driving myself so my dad made me and my friend leave like, immediately after the show. Disappointing. As we were driving away we saw their big ass tour bus outside the venue and I was salty face that we weren't meeting them. There's a funny video of Joshua making fun of Ultragrrl in front of their tour bus that was taken that night. I should've been there. :)

And after that show I started listening to that album religiously (as I do with all bands after I go to one of their shows) and ordered the EP and all that and I was in love.

So yeah, it all started with them requesting me on myspace, and an album bought the day it came out, and a mindblowing show I wish I could've stayed longer at. And I'm waiting patiently for the next album and hopefully seeing them live again.
:)

Day 18: Lyrics to a song you Love

Most people would post a more sentimental lyrics sample, so I'll do that one first:

Scarlet Fields
As the summer fades away
You'll lead me to the garden
Passing the lovers
Swooning in the autumn

See yourself
Your image in the eyes of someone else
See yourself
Your fears as they appear to someone else

When the sun sets
On dark silhouettes
Collapse into dream
Collapse into dream
Collapse into dream

As summer fades away
Laugh at my reflection
Passed to a lover
Seeking your affection

See yourself
Your image in the eyes of someone else
See yourself
Your fears as they appear to someone else

When the sun sets
On dark silhouettes
Collapse into dream
Collapse into dream
Collapse into dream

Though I know
You won't be here for long
Though I know
You won't be here for long

Though I know
You won't be here for long
Though I know
You won't be here for long

Though I know
You won't be here for long
Though I know
You won't be here for long

Though I know
You won't be here for long

And now a more...fun...one:

Excellent Choice
Excellent choice!

Morgan moves back to the familiar charms of his fiery days when Morgan still felt something.
No longer
Morgan's like a slave, three feet of paper and a family of four.
Morgan wonders why his wife is so slow, blames his wife for his slow love.
He shakes his head as he climbs into bed,
Grits his teeth as he moves between the sheets.
Morgan feels like sudden laughter when he sees.

Excellent!

He doesn't sleep much on account of a terrible pain in his head.
And sometimes Morgan sits up in the loft reading from a book of children's stories.

Now listen
Well I'm not trying to question your decision,
In my opinion
You've made an excellent choice.
I don't want to put the doubt in your mind.
In my head, well, you're just fine
Excellent choice.

Jaws no ordinary sucking harder, sagging eyelids & pocked cheeks,
Intelligent the television buzzes & crackles & preaches
Morgan feels like his family have made a conscious effort to cause him misery.
His taste buds have deserted, sneaking away from his wife's cooking.
Morgan dreads the family meal, clenching one hand under the table.
The bland wall hangings nod at the food in recognition. They are far too familiar with one another.
Morgan's work for minimum wage is no comfort.
He thinks about the items that have sapped his money over the years, shoe polish, oven cleaner, vacuum bags, sugar substitute.
A pathetic collection of unwanted gifts and dream-sapping commerce.
Any creative reserves once stored are long gone.
Morgan seethes at the realisation he has given his children too much of the little he has.
Morgan wishes his family dead.

Well I'm not trying to alter your opinion
I'm so happy that you've finally found your voice.
I don't want to put the doubt in your mind
In my head you're just fine.
Excellent Choice.
Well done sir.

Lacking imagination, and full of despair, Morgan turns tail and leaves without a word.
The door shuts compliantly as he moves outside.
Slips slightly on the spit-covered steps of his estate.
Morgan crunches down the path with regular, driven feet, pushing through the grey clouds escaping his mouth.
Approaching the train tracks, he sighs, lays flat across the line, and shuts his eyes.

Day 17: A Pic You've Edited of Them

I've never edited a picture of them, but here's two that have been edited a la Mean Girls:

O. Children

Go buy their self-titled debut album NOW.

Day 16: Fav Pic of Rhys

PLEASE DO CLICK TO MAKE THIS SEXINESS BIGGER.

Now I'm openly a Josh/Joe girl, but hot damn Rhys! He can smolder with the best of them. I mean, woah.

Day 15: Fav Pic of Tom

AWWWW! Him and his kitty cat love! So cute. There's an adorable video on his youtube channel (thomfoolery) of his kittens crawling all over him. It's precious.

Day 14: Fav Pic of Joe

As amazing as his eyes are, I love this pic.

Day 12: Fav Pic of Josh

I love Josh, and it was a hard decision, but I absolutely love this new haircut of his!

Day 12: Fav Pic of Faris

I've never been a Faris girl, but he is rather cute when he smiles. :)

Day 11: Stalkerish Photo

***I did not take this photo***

Day 10: Band Pic that Makes You Laugh

Okay that one's not a band pic, so here's one:

Day 9: Oldest Pic You Have

Both of these are pretty old, I suppose.

Day 8: Newest Pic You Have

LOVE Joshua's hair.

Day 7: Pic from the Primary Colours Era

*Side Note: Have you listened to O. Children yet? I'm listening to their recently-released debut LP right now and it's super good. The singer's low low voice is quite refreshing! And not low as in Paul Banks, low as in his singing voice not his glorified talking voice (Don't take that the wrong way, I love Interpol)

Day 6: Pic from the Strange House Era

And quite possibly my favorite pic of them ever.

(I'm doing a bunch of these posts now as I will be in college in a few weeks and will most likely forget all about this)

Day 5: Fav Song Live

I've only seen them live once, back in 2007. Based on that either 'Sheena is a Parasite' or 'Count in Fives'. So much energy converging between the audience and the band during those songs. Want a full write up on that show? It was in Skyscraper Mag no. 25- Summer 2007. (Which I am a proud owner of!)

Day 4: Fav song that isn't on one of the albums

I will fling my head back, fling my head back and buck and KICK!

If you go to the youtube page there's a link to download in the info box.

Some pictures for ya.

Day 3: Fav Album

I am not going to pick between their two full length albums. Why? Because I love them equal amounts, but for very different reasons. I love Strange House because it's absolutely mad and bombastic. It's great to lose your shit to. And I love Primary Colours because it's great to sink into and feel surrounded by.

They both provoke very different emotions and responses.

Day 2: Fav song from Primary Colours

Definitely 'Scarlet Fields'. It's soooo beautiful. One of the most beautiful mixtures of vocals, sweeping guitars, and swirly keyboards ever written.

Day 1: Fav Song from Strange House

(Yes, another 30 day thingy, this time it's Horrors related)

I'd have to say Count in Fives simply because that's the one I find myself listening to the most.
