Last Part of my Journal

I hope you all enjoyed a glimpse into my favorite things!

Day 19: A Talent of Yours

I'm a photographer! I don't usually post my for real work (I shoot film), but here's one for you. Hell, it's how I got into college.

Today was the first time I saw my German friend Kat Bella in a year. She was an exchange student last year at my high school. My god I remember how great she was. Is. You know what I mean. The fact that we have the same name is only a slight offset. And you know what? She gave me and another friend one Euro coins. I know that's stupid to many people in this world, but I think it's amazing. I love foreign currency, especially because I've never traveled out of America. I think I should give her a Sacagawea gold dollar or a Susan B Anthony silver dollar. Or maybe a 50 cent coin because those are even cooler. Come to think of it, I haven't seen one of those in a long ass time. Maybe because they were ridiculously massive and didn't fit in most coin purses. However, the only problem with the gold or silver dollars is that cashiers always mistake them for quarters and then you have to explain to them that it was actually a dollar and they have to dig it out of the quarter area of the cash register and it's a big mess.

But nonetheless, I love my German Euro. And my German Kat.

All Tomorrow's Parties

Literally! All tomorrow's parties! It isn't just a VU reference. I'm knee-deep in grad party season, and this is the outfit I've picked for grad party hopping tomorrow.

Dress: H&M
Shoes: Salvation Army (They're two different sizes, one of which is too small. Oh well. My friend says they remind her of horseback riding and England which is why I keep wearing them)
Necklace: Vintage chain that I got from these ladies who travel around and have an antique garage sale. They sell jewelry and scarves and glassware and ceramics, among many other things. I'm so lucky they set up shop right around the corner from me!

Day 4 of my Journal

Day 18: Whatever you Want

A PANDA FACT:

When a panda is struck by lightning its white fur turns black and its black fur turns white, therefore it is known as a negative panda. If it gets struck again it reverts back to its original form and is know as a double negative panda or simply just a panda.

Thank you David O'Doherty.

Some Favorite Music Videos

(Well, basically all Robots in Disguise videos)

Who the fuck didn't love this video?!

Love all the imagery associated with The Big Pink

This video inspired me to tin foil a part of my room. I now lovingly refer to it as "My Studio".

I love Kurt in the Buddy Holly glasses.

So hip. 'Nuff said.

This video kind of freaks me out. But I love it.

Karen O is a fucking beast.

And of course Vlad the Impaler by Kasabian, but that has already been posted. More later.
As much as I would like to be an angry teenager, I'm just not. And I've never heard it put better than by Veronica's mother in the movie Heathers:

"When teenagers complain they want to be treated like adults, it's usually because they are being treated like adults."

So true.

I'm itching...

...to get another piercing or tattoo or something young and filled with debauchery. I guess it's because I'm on Degrassi/Skins overload. My god I wanna go to a rave and get really high and do things I would regret if I could remember them. Maybe in a couple months when I'm in college. It is art school after all.

Part 3 of my Journal

I just wanna say that some of these photos are my own, like the black and white ones of the girl and the color ones of that other girl. They look decidedly different from the magazine clippings and they're the only ones on said page.

Blake Sennett

Then: (Far left)

Now:

Who would have thought that the bully we all loved in Boy Meets World would become a major component of the indie music scene? In case you don't know, Blake is a key exponent of indie darlings Rilo Kiley (along with Jenny Lewis, also a former child star) and has a wonderful side project in The Elected. Check him out. (Literally, he's pretty cute as well as talented!)

Day 17: An Art Piece

I absolutely LOVE Barbara Kruger, so much so that I overpayed for a t-shirt of one of her pieces at the Met last summer. (Anything you buy from any museum is overpriced, trust me, I've been knee-deep in museum world since my mom got a job at The Cleveland Museum of Art when I was 8). I love that all her pieces consist of the same colors/noncolors and basic style, it gives all her work a signature without actually having her signature on it. I love how she attacks "norms" and "ideals". And I love how pro-women she is. LOVE LOVE LOVE. This is just one of many of her pieces I like. I mean love. :)

Ever since I saw them live about a year ago I've been unhealthily obsessed with Nick Zinner. In fact, I was so close to the front, that I might even be in one of those pictures he took of the audience! But I will never know.

Face check I walk this beach
I'm frying in the heat in the cauldron stir me
Chomp down my diamond teeth I ain't got
The simple things in life I feel like
You have got to witness
This is your last retreat
My last repeat

All my friends are as sharp as razors
cut you down if you touch the faders
High class girls hung in elevators
Now we have got the floor

Get loose get loose

You can't miss me I'm still alive
Snake skin shoes I'm pleading homicide
Come on and feel this I'm still alive
Joker meet you on the other side

Banshie I hear you call
We need to raise the dead we need to raise the people
Cut throat this blood runs thick
It is true the simple things in life have been lost
You have got to witness
We are the last beatniks
The lost heretics

All my friends are as sharp as razors
cut you down if you touch the faders
Listen up all you masqueraders
Now we have got the floor
Now we have got the floor

Get loose get loose

You can't miss me I'm still alive
Snake skin shoes I'm pleading homicide
Come on and feel this I'm still alive
Joker meet you on the other side

Part 2 of My Journal

Boy Bands

Back in the late 90s when boy bands exploded onto the scene, I was very young. Like, 7. And I enjoyed these songs an obscene amount. Well, since I signed up for rhapsody, I've been listening to some of these songs, and holy shit are they dirty! I had no clue! Take this song, "Faded" by Soul Decision:

When I get you all alone
I'm gonna take off all your clothes
Ain't nobody gonna interrupt my game, oh no
Ever since you've been hangin' around
I've been trying to figure out
What I'm gonna say to you to get something, yeah

Couldn't we do what we did last night again
Baby you and I could be better friends
Don't you think it's time we went a bit further, oh yeah
Every night when we say goodbye
how can I help looking in your eyes
Wondering why you and I haven't hit it
Can we get it on

[Chorus:]
Kind of faded, but I feel alright
Thinkin' about making my move tonight
I can't pretend that you're only my friend when you're holdin' my body tight
'Cause I like the way you're making your move
I like the way you're making me wait
At the end of the night, when i make up your mind
You'll be coming on home with me, yeah, yeah, yeah

Hot damn! Funny the things you discover when you go back into your old music catalogue.
Have I mentioned that I love Noel Fielding? I think that would explain a lot of my posts. So, uh, yeah. I love Noel Fielding.

Cassie

I'm watching Skins right now, for the first time, and I am totally obsessed with Cassie! The way she's not all there, her perfectly frizzed hair, and of course her outfits!! Perfection.

I don't care what anyone says. Courtney Love is amazing. She's incredibly resilient, no matter what happens. She's a total feminist icon, without being overtly feminist (not that I don't love Kathleen Hanna, but you get what I'm saying). She's got this amazing sense of style, whether it's the tattered babydoll dresses she made famous as the girly grunge look, or the period where she was all glammed out, to now, when she's a fabulous mixture of the two (more recently seen with a fantastic Hermes bag!). Not to mention that her new album, Nobody's Daughter, is absolutely genius! It's the perfect mixture of Live Through This and Celebrity Skin, and we all know how amazing both those albums were. She's amazing. Case closed. Still wanna argue? She's a force of fucking nature and she'll keep coming back with more amazing material. So there.
