MY Top Song of 2009 (single possibly released/leaked earlier, album released 2009):
I'm SUPER PSYCHED to see Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland this weekend! Talk about the movie we've been waiting for forever! I can't wait to see all the special effects mingling with the live-action stuff. And as always, the casting is superb (I mean, I know we've seen the Helena Bonham Carter/Johnny Depp combo before, but they are so rad together!). Will post more after I see it....
This is all going on at one of the MAJOR intersections in the area. Right by various malls and the freeway. One car is fucked up, and out comes a bagillion cop cars, an ambulance, and a fucking fire truck. Completely messing up traffic. Obviously it was a slow day in the emergency response world (even though this is during a snow storm, a time when there are a lot of other accidents going on that need attention. Fucking Ridiculous. They blocked off two or three lanes, including the left turn lane.
...on Cleveland! Well, not entirely, but the following are my three favorite places to go in Cleveland/greater Cleveland.
The Cleveland Shop! Insane vintage clothing store, granted the store is very small and most of the stuff they have on display is rental, but they offer a huge amount of jewelry! I bought my homecoming dress her (refinished 60s cocktail dress!). It's on the west side, right by Chelseas(though Chelseas has much more than the Cleveland Shop, it's near impossible to find anything and when you do it's all ripped up!) Also, right by Bent Crayon (record store).
The Beachland Ballroom is down on Waterloo, and is one of the best venues in Cleveland (along with The Grog Shop and Now That's Class). A wide array of artists play the Beachland Ballroom, all indie and local bands play here. Also, they have a record store downstairs. In the same stretch of Waterloo are a few art galleries and two other record stores- Music Saves and The Blue Arrow- I prefer The Blue Arrow (owned and operated by one of my friend's uncles!)
And finally...RECORD DEN!! Located in Mentor, a northeastern suburb of Cleveland, Record Den is my all time favorite record store in Cleveland. They're store is full to the gills of cd's, records (new releases as well as boxes and boxes of older ones, at many prices), 45's, cassette tapes, videos, box sets, t-shirts, stickers and patches, incense, you name it!! My most recent purchase from there is the Electric Prunes album on vinyl. If you live in Cleveland and haven't been here, you're missing out big time!
While the vast majority of these awards are well deserved (of course I voted for Dominos by The Big Pink!!) I'm incredibly upset that Primary Colours (The Horrors) was not voted best album. Other than that I'm okay with the list. But the next Horrors album better win, motherfuckers!

Can I just say how amazingly upset I am that Polaroid film is discontinued? Not only are Polaroids incredibly convenient, but you can also get some really cool photographs out of them. Fuck the free market for not investing in/buying Polaroid film!!!
Get this- someone filmed a bunch of clouds and then set it to this song by the Wooden Shjips. Fucking crazy! But the song is utterly amazing, and you should all listen to this band. Kay? Kay. (But if I ever find more videos of clouds and this song on Youtube I will be utterly embarrassed for you.)
OH...on a side note. I have a 0% in my AP Brit Lit class. Just thought I'd put that out there. Because I waited to make up a vocab test. That I totally failed when I made it up today. This is what we call a "Fuck My Life" moment.

I think I can officially label myself as an Anglophile (for those of you that are unaware, there's always dictionary.com). We're learning about England in my comparative government class, and I cannot stop thinking about the culture. Fuck the government! I wanna be a London club kid. I hope I end up there someday. It seems that most everthing good has originated there (including me!), with the exception of grunge of course. That's all America (until the rest of the world caught on, haha). Of course I like thinking about the rest of Europe as well, but it all seems to come back to that good ol' Red White and Blue (The OGs, not our crummy USA bullshit).
My place is not in the kitchen. My place is not cleaning up after men. My place is not doing the laundry or raising kids. I am probably way more intelligent than the average man. I will not accept laziness or complacency in men. I do not take being threatened well, by either men or women. It's not a joke to me if you say you're going to hit me. I will hit you right back, and harder.
My place is doing whatever the fuck I please, and if you end up with me you better know your way around an oven.
Dan Eldon was a photojournalist that covered the conflict in Somalia in the 90's. And he was good at it. And he was attractive. And his journals are amazing. And he is amazing.
In case you haven't noticed, there is a very strong vintage scene going on in England right now. I've probably mentioned it before in this blog. Well, my love for Velvet Cave Vintage led me to be invited to and event called The Stagnant Society. I was messaged about it on facebook by a guy named Bobby. This guy is in a band-Friends of the Bride. Hence, my newest vintage scene discovery. The band has a jazzy side, and they sound like a remastered early 60's group. And the vocals, I mean! The singer- the aforementioned Bobby guy- has that perfect male voice, low but not ridiculous low. And the cheekbones are nice, haha!
www.myspace.com/friendsofthebride (for some reason it doesn't work when I try to post a link, sorry!)
So, if you didn't already know, I'm a massive fan of The Horrors. And as a massive fan I have favorite members. My two favorites are Joshua Third and Coffin Joe. But Joe gets the most points in my book for this little display....
Talk about a genius idea. Why did it take this long to put into action? Omegle is a site where all you do is talk to strangers. You don't have to sign up or sign in, an no personal information is shared (unless of course you're an idiot and give away your name, email, location, facebook page, etc.). Just last night I had an amazing conversation with a guy from Canada. Seriously amazing. So amazing that I felt bad when I disconnected (he asked for a screen name, I have a rule against giving away stuff like that). I'll probably never come into contact with him again, but I really enjoyed chatting with him. This site is a genius way to have fun. You can be anybody you want to be, and talk to someone without feeling awkward. There is the occasional creep who will start the conversation with something along the lines of "i'm horny", but there's always that lovely Disconnect button. And no one can find you after you disconnect! Amazing. I've found a whole new way to spend time on the internet!.
"They scream and they shout for the boys in the band...."
The Libertines went out waaaay too early. Thank god for Babyshambles, Dirty Pretty Things, and Pete Doherty's solo project. Carl Barat and Pete Doherty are some seriously talented motherfuckers. And back in the early aughts Carl Barat got voted sexiest man in NME. I concur.
BTW-The newest Pete Doherty solo album is the shit. So good. Check it out.
I did not know about this! How did I not know about this? Why weren't message boards publicly blowing up with news about this?!!! They're very stylish gents, to be sure, and have been featured in a magazine before for their style (in the music issue of Anthem a couple of years ago, it had Interpol on the cover). You will not believe the excitement I felt in the bookstore as I was flipping pages....it was intense. I bought it on the spot, even though I usually spend my money on coffee. Enjoy the pics!
LADY GAGA, is there anyone else worth talking about? I think not. I mean, she's so fucking fabulous that Madonna even said she had the "it factor". And that's a really high endorsement. I mean, she's got a new album out (sorta, since it was released seperately Billboard regards it as a different album) and her previous one is still on the top five Soundscan sellers list! That's the kind of success worth dealing with hermaphodyte rumors for. And no, I don't believe those rumors. If you're able to wear all those leotards and have no bulge whatsoever, you are certainly a female. No doubt about that. But I do have questions about that new music video, namely, What the fuck is going on?! I know I'm not the only one who was more than a little confused when she lit the bed on fire, right? And both she and I seem to share a love of Hispanic men. And I'm okay with that. It's too bad that her tour is doing three shows in Chicago, but absolutely none in Cleveland! I call bullshit. You know what would be a great tour? Amanda Blank opening for Lady Gaga. I would pay top dollar for those tickets.
Grandmother dearest came over today, for Christmas, you know. I don't see her often, because she lives in a nursing home. She's got really bad Alzheimers. Hearing her say the same things over and over again can be funny at times, but today it really made me think. See, we have a lot of stuff from her old house in ours. She kept asking, "does this look familiar to me?" about all of said stuff. That must suck. Like having permanent deja vu. I know it would drive me crazy. It's strange how when we get old we revert back to being children. My mother had to coax her to take her pills, like she did with me and my vitamins when I was a kid. She literally bribed my grandmother with a cookie. I don't think it would be fun to have permanent deja vu. I would get tired of never seeing anything new. Not that she would be able to remember anything new.
I've noticed that with this generation especially there are far fewer authentically awesome people than there used to be. Everybody nowadays is trying to be cool, or hip, or wanted. I know that everyone at some point is guilty of it, that would explain why I was a cheerleader in elementary school (I was horrible at it). But some people just don't grow out of it. And the sick part of it is that some people are so good at pretending that they convince themselves that they are what they pretend.
People say things for the benefit of others, and you never know where you stand with them. Like, are they your friend or are they pretending to be your friend? But you can't figure it out until they stop talking to you. It's a waste of a life if you ask me.
Seeing the ads for the new MTV show has inspired me to make my own list. So here it goes-in no particular order.
-Go to Burning Man -Visit the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon -Make out with a stranger (sober) -Live in a different country -Go to a legit rave -See one of my fave band's reunion tours (VU, you reading?) -Have a friend in every state in America -Spend $1000 on one thing (not a house, appliance, etc.) -Keep a plant alive -Go to as many music festivals as possible (including Coachella, SXSW, Austin City Limits, etc.) -Road trip through every state in America and all the best parts of Canada- See Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Rocky Mtns, Las Vegas, etc. -Have a love affair during a summer in Europe -Take one of those acrobatics classes -Learn how to swing dance well enough to do so in public -Go to Castle Dracula -Fill all 80 gigs on my ipod -Own at least one Chanel purse -Win more than $100 in the lottery
That's all I got for now, I'll post the next installment when I have it.
I've recently realized that I know a lot of people with no personality. And all these people think they are too cool for school. They also think they're too cool for me. It upsets me about one of them because I was friends with her when everybody thought she was annoying and not worth knowing. Great. And everybody wants to be friends with these no-personality people. Maybe it's because they're not threatening, and they laugh at every joke even if they don't like it or don't get it.
My god do I hate people who try to hard to "be" something. Unfortunately, it seems to be a problem that's plaguing a whole generation. My generation (insert Who reference here). People nowadays want to be cool, I guess. It's sickening. It's easy to find these people attractive at first glance, but do not get to know them. Everybody who tries to get to know these people is sorely let down. They seem cool don't they? Well they only like that movie because Jack White told them to. And they only listen to that band because Lou Reed likes them.
Now, I love Lou Reed and Jack White, but you gotta admit that they got some crazy taste. I certainly think that the White Stripes are better than the Raconteurs. In my opinion, they aren't equally good. Yes, the Raconteurs have had brief shining moments, but not nearly as many as the White Stripes have had. And Lou is fabulous in every way, I can't say anything bad about him. But you gotta have your own opinions. For instance, Pineapple Express did not introduce me to MIA. There you go. I personally think that $20 is a better song than Paper Planes, but whatever.
I have been let down by these "hipsters" before. But the really cool people and the fakers all look the same nowadays. I say give them a shot, and ask a lot of questions. If you aren't having good conversation, and their hogging all the attention, and what they're saying sounds completely vapid and out of nowhere, chances are they're wannabes.
I went to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs live in concert this past week. Nick Zinner is my new "celebrity crush". I move pretty quickly in those waters. When I met James Franco he was my official celebrity crush. Back when the Lord of the Rings movies first started coming out Orlando Bloom was my main man. It cycles around based on whatever I'm exposed to at the time. You know how it is.
The show was so incredibly amazing words can hardly describe. It is right up there on my best concerts ever list along with The Horrors. They shot confetti Y's (which of course ended up down my shirt, like everything else....haha) and I grabbed a bunch. Fuck yes for free concert swag. Then Nick brought out his trusty camera and got a bunch of pictures of the crowd, I know I'm in at least one of those pictures. I'm happy about that. Even if it ends up only on his hard drive, I'm happy. I have never felt so gross after a show before. It was so hot, I was so covered in sweat (and not just mine, as all you concertgoers know).
My favorite memory was actually with the guy standing next to me on the floor. The band had just finished a song, and through all the applause I told him "You're really hot". He misunderstood, and replied "Yeah, aren't they so great?!". HA. I'm actually kind of glad he didn't understand me, It might have been embarrassing. I am, however, glad that I said it. It's the most upfront I've ever been with anyone ever.
