Well, the power went out last night, and when it came on my U-verse completely died. And beeped all night. So I put on my headphones and had a nineties pop-punk trip down memory lane. Sure, I was really young when said nineties pop-punk was released (and in some cases not even born yet, as I'm a 1992 baby). But it really made me happy. I was thinking about what would be an accurate expression of American teenagers, and that music really works. Modern poppy punky shit is just awful, there isn't the same honesty or freedom. Like listening to "Longview" for the first time in really long time made me all nostalgic and shit. It was great. And L7's "Pretend We're Dead". All that stuff is so great. So young. So alienated and yet so echoed by all the other bands of the day. And watching Empire Records makes me feel the same way. The nineties were the best. A time of ridiculous fashion (which was really awesome if you ask me), great music (Grunge all the fucking way), and Ethan Hawk (Yeah, you loved Singles too, admit it).
Long Live the 90's. And long live Tubthumping.
