I want to start by saying that I particularly love England and the English and pretty much everything English in general.
Now that I have said that, I find it hard to believe that the British are upset about BP taking a huge hit. They would have taken a huge hit even if no pressure had been put on them by our government. Now I'm not saying that explicitly anti-British comments are okay, but BP, and the manufacturers of the oil siphoning device should take huge hits, both financially and stock-wise. This oil spill is a major ecological catastrophe, and one that the Earth cannot afford. We're already under the huge threat of Global Warming and Climate Change, and massive damage to the oceans is not helping any.
British pensioners have a right to be worried about their pensions. That is true. But if BP wants to continue making substantial money in the US, then something needs to work. Even if/when the spill gets fixed, there is still the matter of cleaning up the Gulf shores and the ocean itself, as well as the animals that have been harmed in the process. I'm firmly support all ecological aid groups, and the spill is a major ecological issue, the biggest one currently at hand.
On a slightly different note, English people:
I'm not gonna lie, Barack Obama doesn't care as much about what you think of him as he does what American voters do. He's not going to back up BP. He's not going to cater to your upset pensioners. It might continue the world seeing Americans as ignorant and self-absorbed, but David Cameron would do the same thing if something like this happened in your neck of the woods. He would want to continue his political career, not make Americans like him. Everyone is facing hard economic times. Lots of people are affected by the oil spill. Obama is not going to back down on BP.
Sorry.
